EXPLORE WORKS

  • ABSTRACT

    Abstract, adjective;

    relating to or denoting art that does not attempt to represent external reality, but rather seeks to achieve its effect using shapes, colours, and textures. I love that definition of abstract art, it sums up how I feel about my work. I never quite know what will happen when I take on a blank board. There so many influences from music to the weather outside, it just grows and becomes reality a textural, physical thought.

  • ABSTRACT LANDSCAPE

    Unlike my abstract work there is a lot of emotion in these pieces, I become totally absorbed and completely lost in the process of painting. I sometimes stop to make a cuppa and realise the whole day has disappeared and have no recollection of time passing, it feels like I had just picked up the brush. I hope to pass on this feeling when people look into my work and time stands still for them too.

  • SCULPTURE

    This is truly a joy for me, it’s physical, dirty, noisy and instantly rewarding. I love working with my hands and I swear the timber whispers to me, I know that sounds crazy but it does; I have a real affinity with it and to create something so beautiful from something that has been discarded is an amazing feeling.

    The sculptures themselves are a reflection on ageing, it doesn't matter how old and weathered you get or how many holes and cracks life gives you, you are still beautiful on the inside.

Tēnā koutou, harae mai,

New Zealand born, Hastings, Hawkes Bay to be precise. A father to three amazing adult children, whom I'm super proud of. My current place of residence is the fabulous, inspirational Marlborough Sounds.

My artwork is what I would call 'evolving abstract'. I have only ever used oils and currently work on board as I found that my technique was too rough for canvas. I love the challenge of working with oil paint. It is unforgiving yet rewarding. More often than not the paintings have a habit of changing on me so I never quite know what I'm going to get. Each one is truly unique; I doubt very much I could repeat the same painting twice and to be honest that suits me just fine.

Being a painter, a potter and a sculptor of timber, there is just never enough time in the day to use up all that creativity. Thank you for stopping by my website, feel free to have a look around, you never know what you may find.

Ngā mihi,
Troy
